This drive is one of my most favorite scenic byways. Most of its 44 miles follow the upper Colorado river, offering beautiful views up the red cliffs that rise along the right side of the river, and at distant mountain ranges on the left side. Coming on I-70 from the East, it’s exit 214, and exit 204 if coming from the West. The road is narrow and winding, but we managed it easily with our 36 ft trailer. And there is almost no traffic at all!
Closer to Moab, there are several public land campgrounds right at the river banks, in a beautiful setting especially during sunrise and sunset, when the canyon walls fire up reflecting the sun.
