Home ยป Why English is difficult (1)

Of course, there are many correct answers to that question. But one is, it has a much bigger vocabulary than the German. Many German words have more than one translation, depending on the context. My favorite example is the German word “Ziel”. It can mean

– Goal (sports, business)

– Objective (business)

– Target (shooting, business)

– Finish line (sports)

– Aim (multilpe uses)

– Destination (travel)

The German language combines the word Ziel with other words to better specify the context, like “Reiseziel” for “destination”. And in oder to make ourselves understandable, we Germans have to know the translation that matches the context correctly.
